About Me

So this is where it all started...yes, this gorgeous flower arrangement. You may be asking yourselves, how does one begin an "ABOUT ME" section on a blog with flowers?...well, here's the story. Seven years ago my husband and I moved from Atlanta, GA to a small town in Alabama- hence, the blog name :) Although by trade I am an elementary school teacher, I stumbled down the path to retail in this small lake town of Guntersville, Alabama. It was at a small flower & gift shop in town that I discovered my love for the true art of floral arrangement, gift & home décor, and most of all the love and craft of display. The owner of the shop took me in and I never looked back! The shop felt like the "hub" of the town...I'd never experienced anything like it -even in Atlanta. I loved the customers who came and went, or sometimes just stopped to visit. It was here I caught the "retail bug". I went on to later open my own baby & children's gift shop called The Plaid Giraffe. It was a culmination of all my most favorite baby & children's boutiques I had visited from all over. I truly felt like I was bringing a "little bit of city" to the small town. After months of soul searching, I made the tough decision to close my shop to be with my family full time, and have found myself missing so many things about it. I've created this blog to continue to be able to share my love for the things that continue to inspire me in my life...whether for my home, my son, friends' babies, or sometimes just for me! And although I realize that Atlanta is IN the south too...I've come to learn you really, truly don't know what "southern" is until you've lived in a small southern town. There's something about the southern way here, that is very special and hard to imitate.
So read on! and I hope you find a little piece of joy & inspiration each week here on citymeetssouth!
